Amanda Rewerts had seen people rationing water on TV before, but she felt unprepared for the reality she experienced during the unsuccessful military coup throughout Turkey on Friday night. The 23-year-old Nevada, Iowa, native is an incoming graduate student at Ankara University, spending her summer in the capital city learning the Turkish language and culture.

Family at Ames bus driver's sentencing: 'This is injustice'
The family of an Iowa State University student killed by a bus in a hit-and-run crash called the sentence for the driver an injustice Friday. Benjamin Clague, 24, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $100 after pleading guilty this week to a simple misdemeanor, failure to report an accident.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Arcadia Fire Department, the western Iowa town hosted a parade, party in the park and a grand finale. But, according to the Carroll Daily Times Herald, a Hillary Clinton impersonator rode the parade as a prisoner, not a potential president. The Daily Times Herald reported that Kyle Julin of Manilla and his friend Josh Reetz crafted a wooden barbed wire fence prison cell which was pulled behind an ATV.

At around 7:50 Sunday morning, a crowd gathered for the Fight For Air Climb in the lobby of the Greater Des Moines Partnership building.
